One World, One Thirst-Quenching Dream

We have all seen the magnificent opening ceremony of the Beijing 2008 Olympics this August 8. Everything was pretty artistic, and even the tagline inspires me so much - One World, One Dream. I can't help but to think that Coke is Olympic = Cocalympic.

Well, then again, it is lame to force Coke and Olympic together as one word. But although Coke has nothing to do with sports at all, it kinda fits perfectly into the refreshing spirit of One World, One "Thirst-Quenching" Dream.

This's what I think: if the Olympic spirit is for us to embrace unity, friendship, progress, harmony, participation and to dream of a better world, then Coke fuels it.

"One World One Dream" fully reflects the essence and the universal values of the Olympic spirit -- Unity, Friendship, Progress, Harmony, Participation and Dream. It expresses the common wishes of people all over the world, inspired by the Olympic ideals, to strive for a bright future of Mankind. In spite of the differences in colors, languages and races, we share the charm and joy of the Olympic Games, and together we seek for the ideal of Mankind for peace. We belong to the same world and we share the same aspirations and dreams.

"One World One Dream" is a profound manifestation of the core concepts of the Beijing Olympic Games. It reflects the values of harmony connoted in the concept of "People's Olympics", the core and soul of the three concepts -- "Green Olympics, High-tech Olympics and People's Olympics". While "Harmony of Man with Nature" and "Peace Enjoys Priority" are the philosophies and ideals of the Chinese people since ancient times in their pursuit of the harmony between Man and Nature and the harmony among people, building up a harmonious society and achieving harmonious development are the dream and aspirations of ours. It is our belief that peace and progress, harmonious development, living in amity, cooperation and mutual benefit, and enjoying a happy life are the common ideals of the people throughout the world.

"One World One Dream" is simple in expressions, but profound in meaning. It is of China, and also of the world. It conveys the lofty ideal of the people in Beijing as well as in China to share the global community and civilization and to create a bright future hand in hand with the people from the rest of the world. It expresses the firm belief of a great nation, with a long history of 5,000 years and on its way towards modernization, that is committed to peaceful development, harmonious society and people's happiness. It voices the aspirations of 1.3 billion Chinese people to contribute to the establishment of a peaceful and bright world.

The English translation of the slogan is distinctive in sentence structure. The two "One"s are perfectly used in parallel, and the words "World" and "Dream" form a good match. The slogan is simple, meaningful, inspiring, and easy to remember, read and spread.

In Chinese, the word "tongyi", which means "the same", is used for the English word "One". It highlights the theme of "the whole Mankind lives in the same world and seeks for the same dream and ideal".

Mine's The Empty Version

Um... Cokejuice was just trying to clean up the bottles for me. The paper carrier has 4 bottles in it you see, and they are all EMPTY, with some leftover Coke inside, by the way. And that's an "eeewwwww". The caps are a bit dented because the seller tried recapping them after consumption.

[You can always share a glass of chilled Coke with me. But you'll have to go to McDonald's and buy some set meals to get me the Beijing Olympic Coke cup first!]

What's Soccer Without Coke?

Liquidfreak came home from work, scanned the entire living room and rushed upstairs to where her brother was sitting. He was in front of the computer and his fingers clicked rapidly on the mouse. "Got parcel-ar?" Liquidfreak managed to say while clinging onto her huge bag. Without lifting his fingers and moving his eyes, her brother said "Cupboard."

It's a lot of hard work, trying to hide these parcels from her parents. Cos if they see another Coke bottle or can, they'll start the entire nagging process all over again.

Once entering her room, Liquidfreak throws her bag onto the floor and grabbed the handle of the cupboard. Immediately, she swings the door open and saw a white parcel lying in between her clothes. Without hesitating, she tore open the wrappings and it reveals a brown box. Using a pair of scissors, Liquidfreak slits the box open.

For a moment, the faint sound of people cheering could be heard. Bright lights began flashing from inside the box. The cheering grew louder and louder and then someone shouted GOOOOAL, and there was a thunderous applause.

Liquidfreak quickly reached into the box and pulled out one of three Coca-Cola EuroCup 2008 bottles. "Ahhhh... the latest addition to my Coca-Cola collection."

[An opportunity to get together and enjoy authentic friendship whilst celebrating the victory.]

A Silent Celebration

There were images of the Coca-Cola Royal Wedding (of Prince Charles & Princess Diana) bottle on the computer screen. Liquidfreak was downloading these images into a folder so that she could admire the bottle whenever she feels like it. This bottle will be among her most prized possessions.

A little history: This Coca-Cola glass bottle was produced to celebrate The Royal Wedding of Prince Charles and Princess Diana on 29 July 1981. It does not have a paper label, instead it has a painted-on label, which is very lasting. It's a rare and valuable collection, which Cokejuice and I think that it's a must-have for all coke collectors.

So one day, while surfing the internet, Liquidfreak found this very bottle she was searching desperately for, on sale at an almost reasonable price. She emailed the seller and immediately a transaction was made. Within a week later, the Coca-Cola Royal Wedding bottle arrived. It has a slight dent on the cap but it was near perfection to Liquidfreak.

Liquidfreak was very happy, but in her heart, she left a silent prayer for Princess Diana, Princess of the People - July 1, 1961 -August 31, 1997.

[Her ending was tragic, but with her death, she left behind a legacy.]

What Brings You Sunshine?

Music. Fashion. TV. Sports. Each of these limited edition 'Sunshine Collection' Coca-Cola Originals' designs are a response to a simple question - "What brings you sunshine?"

So Cokejuice, what brings you sunshine? More sugar? :D

[Happiness crafts a smile on my face, and that's exactly what sunshine does to each and everyone of us.]

Space Coke

This is a Coca-Cola space can with space Coke in it. Cokejuice and I checked, and we are not sure about the ingredients, but we can almost asure that it will taste the same in space as it is on earth.

A little history: On July 12, 1985, Coca-Cola® became the first soft drink to be consumed in space when astronauts tested the "Coca-Cola® Space Can" aboard Space Shuttle Challenger. Working with NASA, The Coca-Cola Company invested more than $250,000 in the initial development of the space can technology.

Let There Be Light

Always thought I should have a Coca-Cola neon sign at home somewhere. Perhaps Cokejuice will get me one someday.

Waltz Away

Waltz: From the old German word 'walzen' - to roll, turn, or to glide.

Waltz: A ballroom dance in 3/4 time with strong accent on the first beat and a basic pattern of step-step-close.

Waltz: To move or glide in a lively or conspicuous manner (to advance easily and successfully).

Waltz: A dance born in the suburbs of Vienna and in the alpine region of Austria. As early as the seventeenth century, waltzes were played in the ballrooms of the Hapsburg court. The weller, or turning dances, were danced by peasants in Austria and Bavaria even before that time. Many of the familiar waltz tunes can be traced back to simple peasant yodeling melodies.

MILLENIUMSWALZER LINKSDREHUNG [1999]
These bottles were released in Austria for the millennium in 1999 and are known as the Waltz bottles. Each bottle shows the dance steps for the Waltz. This set of bottles features the dance steps for her (Dame) and for him (Herr).

75th Anniversary

Coca-Cola Commemorative 10Oz. bottle. Cokejuice reminded me that I have the one on the left in my collection.

Matthew Williamson Jaguar

Coca-Cola UK Matthew Williamson Jaguar - I almost got my hands on one of these bottles!

Did U Know?

I have these 2 bottles, and i notice that one is really greener than the other! Haha, it's good to know that i have one higher value coke than the other! :)

The greener the bottle, the higher the value. And, the thicker the base, the higher the value too!

Timeless Refreshment

This is one of my most expensive collection. The bottle is a crystal bottle (but looks more like glass to me - i'm not an expert on glass and crystal, sorry) and it comes with a wooden box (mahogany) and a certificate. On the cert, there's a serial number. They produce only 5,000 of this bottle.

China Olympic WE8 Bottles

I already have 2 sets of the China 2008 Olympic Coke aluminium cans with the 5 icons (as shown below) - i will post a picture of this collection soon! Hehe.

SO WHAT EXACTLY IS WE8?
It's something every Coke collector will want to know about! (See the 8 aluminium bottles above).

Leading up to the Olympic Games in August, Coke is coming out with a special set of international bottles.

Coke asked eight artists from China to create designs (centered around the idea of the world coming together for the Olympics) for aluminum contour bottles. Then each design was paired with specially composed music (by eight musicians from around the world). For each limited-edition bottle design, a popular recording artist from the West has composed a special, companion WE8 song.

So WE8 is "West meets East" with eight designs and songs.

You can read all the details, see the bottles, learn the names or the artists and musicians, and hear the songs here. I've included a photo of the collection of bottles and two bottles so you can see them up-close, but you can see all of the designs at that link as well and read how this fits into the "Coke Side of Life" campaign for the Beijing Games.

WHERE YOU CAN FIND THE BOTTLES
The bottles - available this June through August - won't be offered everywhere, so this could be the start of a real hunt for true collectors.

The eight bottles follow different themes. One themed WE8 bottle will be available in these areas: Australia (the bottle called "Happiness"), Belgium ("Peace on Earth"), Brazil ("Global Harmony"), China ("Healthy World"), France ("Individual Perseverance"), Great Britain ("Uplifting Moments"), Greece ("Human Collaboration") and New Zealand ("Active Optimism"). All eight bottles periodically will be available in the U.S. at selected Simon Malls around the country.

And, if you're heading to Beijing for the Games, the WE8 bottles should be there as well! If you're not heading to China, a WE8 collector's set, with all eight bottles and the eight music tracks, will be available through the online Coca-Cola Store, the New World of Coca-Cola in Atlanta and the Coke stores in Las Vegas and at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport.

Hutchinson Holiday

This is a replica of the famous Hutchinson Coke bottle. I personally have one bottle in my collection.

Hutchinson Coke

The very first Coke bottles were Hutchinson style bottles - these are extremely rare and date before 1900. Straight-sided (S-S) Coke bottles with crown tops date about 1900-1919; colors were clear, aqua, green, blue, and amber with amber bottles in good condition typically bringing the highest prices. "Coca-Cola" embossed in script letters contained Coke and is more valuable, while the "Coca-Cola" embossed in block letters contained a flavored drink other than Coke so is less valuable.
There are two styles of Hutchinson Coke: one with "Coca-Cola" in script and one without. The Biedenharn hutch is the one without "Coca-Cola" in script.

MORE ON HUTCHINSON COKE
The first Hutchinson bottles to contain Coca-Cola were made by the Biedenharn Candy Company of Vicksburg, Mississippi. Although Biedenharn was the first to bottle Coca-Cola, the company bottled many other beverages as well, and the Biedenharn Hutchinsons were not embossed with the Coca-Cola trademark. These bottles are still highly collectible, even though many Biedenharn bottles probably never contained Coca-Cola. Some later Hutchinson bottles, though, were marked Coca-Cola, and original examples are extremely rare! A Biedenharn Candy Company Hutchinson bottle, with no mention of Coca-Cola, is generally worth around $250 in excellent condition, while original Hutchinson bottles marked with the script Coca-Cola logo may be worth $2,000 or more! Beware of reproductions, though. Both Biedenharn and "Coca-Cola" Hutchinsons have been reproduced. The reproduction Biedenharn Hutchinson bottle shown in the illustration is clearly marked "1894-1979" on the back, indicating an anniversary bottle, but other reproductions may be less obvious.

*Note: I've "whited out" the wording on the Biedenharn Hutchinson bottle so that it shows in the photos better, but the original lettering was embossed - not white.

100 Calories

I have one of these small Coke can from the US (but in a different design). I sort of stopped collecting cans because they aren't durable, unless i empty them! But believe me, an empty can or bottle surely loses its beauty.

Found this online somewhere - quite interesting the way it was being photographed. It depicts Coke as a form of Art and a well-known icon from around the world.
